As news of death tolls rising to more than 190, the bombing of a hospital, 800 more wounded and a possible cease fire–thousands stood in the rain during a flash flood warning today in New York City. Jews Boycott Israel, Al-AwdaNY, and citizens from Turkey were just some of the groups who stood their ground from 3-7PM outside the United Nations on 47th & 1st Ave today. After storming for an hour the sun came out for the rest of the protest. This is the third large protest in a week for Palestine in New York City. Thousands more have protested globally from London to India to Japan and many more.
Here is a 90-second video of the beautiful people of New York at the United Nations yesterday. Just when I about had it with this urine-smelling, bed bug infested city…I was not sure if I was going to go because I didn’t want to get struck by lightening, but I was reminded that I was not in Iowa where there would have been hardly anyone out and that New Yorkers are crazy.
I have also been reading messages from my activist friends, whose hearts are weighing heavy these days, say that photos of the protests bring some joy. So, here’s some light in these clouds.
